WHY BANGLADESH
Bangladesh, despite being a least developed economy, has a proven record in export competitiveness. From 2003 to 2007 Bangladesh achieved annual export value growth of 19.6%, a testimony to its export competitiveness. Manufacturing output has seen steady growth, recently in double figures. Bangladesh provides significant benefits to exporters.
Standard & Poor’s Ratings in 2012 gave Bangladesh a (B) for foreign short term investment, which makes us the second highest in South Asia behind India (BBB) and ahead of Sri Lanka (B+) and Pakistan (B-). Other countries in similar category include Turkey, Philippines, Indonesia and Vietnam. “The stable outlook reflects strong growth prospects and ongoing donor support, which ensures low-cost and long-maturity external debt and minimizes refinancing risk,” the S&P said in a statement on the rating.
Bangladesh also enjoys tariff-free access to the EU, Canada, Australia and Japan. Bangladesh is the top manufactured products exporter to the least developed countries as well as to Europe, with more than 50% market share.
